Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the July 26 edition of Rocky 104.9's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on WRKY-FM (www.rocky1049.com).
Thanks to our guest, Altoona-based singer, songwriter and pianist Nick Finochio (www.myspace.com/nickfinochio). We got acquainted with Nick and learned about his career to date, and got inside his new CD, Based On A True Story. Nick also brought along his keyboard and performed two songs live. (Thanks again to Chris and The Underground Television for the use of their studio facility for the interview.) In addition, we updated Local Music News; debuted new tunes from Ken Gray, Gina Riggio, On The Run, Arianne Rox, Awkward Silence and Punchline; reviewed Conner Gilbert’s The View From Within CD in “The Professor’s CD Corner”; and recalled a 2002 number from Electric Blue for a "Local Music Flashback."

The date has been announced for the 19th annual "End Of Summer Jam" benefit concert. The event, with proceeds benefiting Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, will take place on Sunday, August 30, at Kook's Korner near Chest Springs. A band line-up and other details about the concert will be announced soon.
Lies Inc. has named their new lead singer to replace Bob Lee. Tie Down singer Scott Walk is taking over lead vocal duties. Scott's first official appearance with Lies Inc. will be August 8 at a Dubois venue.
The Victory In Heaven Blues Band has completed work on their next CD. The ten-track disc is currently being mastered by George Graham before being sent off to be manufactured. The expected release date of the disc will be August 25. Victory In Heaven Blues Band leader Sterling Koch will work on recording a new CD of steel guitar-based Chicago blues, to be released sometime this winter. And Koch’s other blues band, 61 South, will start recording their next CD early next year for a late 2010 release.
In September, Johnstown's Our Town magazine will launch the fourth annual "Rockin' in the Valley" contest, a month-long online showcase of the Johnstown area's top musical and songwriting talent. Each week, the magazine's website will post a new song from each of their contestants while a panel of judges and online users vote on their favorites before declaring the winner in October. Winners will receive prizes from local businesses. Bands or artists with four recorded songs are eligible; the entry deadline is August 24.
