LAUNCH Music Conference, coming to Lancaster, PA, April 16-19 2009. The conference is continuing to gain clout through the booking of national bands and renowned panelists and the validation of the Mayor's office. The event now features an outdoor performance by Radio Disney darlings Comic Book Heroes in Binns Park, the closing of main downtown thoroughfare Queen Street and an appearance (and performance) by Philadelphia's acclaimed Paul Green School Of Rock The conference (which features a dozen area venues) also coincides with Music Friday and ArtWalk, ensuring that thousands of fans of the regional art scene will be in attendance. www.launchmusicconference.com

We were going to try to get a showcase but were told that we had to be available for all days of the conference! (HUH???) I told them we were already booked on a couple of the nights and they said we could take a chance and apply, see what happens. We would have liked to have been part of it but can't afford to take a whole weekend off just for a 40min freebie set!!! Was anyone else out there told this??? Just curious....

Maybe....email is a very odd thing and easily misunderstood.....but it was on the application which is why I specifically contacted them. He explained to me that the conference is "so much more than just live performance" and that we need to take advantage of the lectures, etc, and what amazing speakers they had lined up. I explained our situation and intentions and (long story short) was told they want band to be available for the duration of the conference - we could always just apply however and see what happens.
Not trying to trash the conference --- I honestly think it would be very cool to be part of! Just seemed odd to me that he was so adamant about us being available for the entire conference in order to showcase. I'd like to try it next year, provided we are not required to dedicate the whole weekend.....which is kinda why I'm asking if anyone else heard the same.
Besides the gig thing, you can only sit through so many "How To Market Your Band" seminars.....no disrespect, they are great and very helpful but seriously, after so many, well, you get the idea.....

Music Conference in a Single Post: 1. Don't play the same venues over and over and over again. Book a small, regional tour and expand from there. If a member of the band can't commit to even that, then replace him. 2. Don't post "demos" to your MySpace page. And don't call your first release a "demo". Demo = crappy local band that didn't get record their shit very well much less pay to have it mastered. 3. Rehearse a lot before you book your first show. In fact, don't even book a show until people (other than your girlfriends and wives) are asking for it. 4. Take the Mobsters game off of your MySpace page. It looks retarded. That'll be $35, please.
