McCain Ineligible to Hold Office of President?

I've seen people on the internet posting this for a while now, but I thought it was bogus. John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone and not in one of the 50 states. As you all know, you must be a "natural-born citizen" to hold the office of President. I assumed that the Panama Canal Zone was a US territory at the time (which I thought may make him eligible...kinda like a US embassy in a foreign country is considered American soil), but I may have been incorrect. The New York Times has now written an article on this matter...which makes me think that maybe there is a little more to this than I first had thought. Not that I trust them...but the fact that it has hit the mainstream media makes me think twice about it. The article:
