...that I found on another site: So who is supporting that crazy congressman from Texas? His top 3 contributors in order are: 1. U.S. Army 2. U.S. Navy 3. U.S. Air Force The Department of Defense comes in at #19. John McCain’s top 3 are: 1. Merrill Lynch 2. Citigroup, Inc 3. Blank Rome , LLP Neither the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, or U.S. Air Force show up in John McCain’s top 20 contributors. The money has come from the PACs for these organizations. Here is the link to the full list of 1-20, Full List www.opensecrets.org/pres08/contrib.asp?id=N00005906&cycle=2008

Impressive for Paul, but....
Look at the amounts. The top contributor to Ron Paul is the Army people at 68k. That is like 10th on McCains list.
Look at the total defense numbers though:
McCain, John - $158,507 Paul, Ron - $145,513
Still impressive for Paul, but not nearly as shocking as the face value seems.

I wasn't trying to insinuate anything by the statistic...it's just interesting to see where these candidates get their money from. However, I will note that Ron Paul leads the way in donations from active duty officers and military personnel, while John McCain comes in at third. I think that's probably more telling of a statistic, considering Ron Paul wants us out of Iraq and John McCain is willing to stay another 100 years if necessary. politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/206/

Dr. Paul’s total military donations of $249 thousand are almost as much as the $260 thousand of combined donations received by the other five remaining candidates. Congressman Paul is no stranger to military support. Former president Ronald Reagan once said, “Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country!” According to the FEC reports, these are the total number and amount of military donations for each of the presidential candidates*: Ron Paul: 1160 $249k John McCain: 438 $83k Mike Huckabee: 126 $37k Mitt Romney: 126 $24k Barack Obama: 443 $76k Hillary Clinton: 154 $41k *Methodology: Searched FEC reports for occupation/employer contains: "Army" "Navy" "USN" "USAF" "Air Force" "Marine" "USMC" "Coast Guard" "USCG" then removed duplicates and non-military occupations (i.e. "marine repair") www.ronpaul2008.com/press-releases/211/q4-fec-reports-ron-paul-receives-more-military-donations-than-all-other-republicans-combined/
