this happened about a week ago....the thing that gets me is there is no law requiring a parent to have their kids vaccinated. the school kicked out the one's who didn't have their records up-to-date and then wouldn't let the kids back in until they got vaccinated; threatening the parents with jail time for truancy of the kids. neither the school district nor the court/attorney general mentioned that if paperwork was filled out then the kids do NOT have to have these shots.
and what's with this damned gardisil vaccine for cervical cancer they keep trying to give my daughter. I told the doctor if she asks again we are seeking a different physician. Merck makes this shitty drug and they just settled a suit for several billion dollars on the Vioxx problem which they knew about ahead of time. Also one study I read several months ago regarding Gardisil showed some figure where something in the neighborhood of 5% of the girls between 11-14 testing it died. they of course said it was due to unrelated causes. But I have never heard of 5% of girls in that age range dying for anything.....

Court Becomes Clinic In Vaccination Effort
Md. Parents Complain Of 'Heavy-Handed' Tactics

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. -- Hundreds of parents lined up at a Maryland courthouse on Saturday to get on the right side of the state law requiring that schoolchildren be vaccinated.
A letter from a circuit court judge ordered parents to appear at the courthouse Saturday and either get their children vaccinated on the spot, or possibly risk up to 10 days in jail.
They could also provide proof of vaccination or an explanation why their kids didn't have them.
Early Saturday morning, a line stretched outside the courthouse. Many of those in line said their children were properly immunized, but the school system had misplaced the records. They said efforts to get the paperwork straightened out beforehand had been futile.
Aloma Martin of Fort Washington, Md., brought in her children to receive hepatitis shots. She said she had been trying to set up an appointment for the vaccinations for months and had one set for Monday, but came to the court house to be sure.
"It was very heavy handed," she said of the county's action. "From that letter, it sounded like they were going to start putting us in jail."
School officials deemed the effort a success. School system spokesman John White said the number of children lacking vaccinations dropped from 2,300 at the time the judge sent the letter to about 1,100 Friday. Hundreds more were expected to be in compliance after Saturday's session.
Officials said Saturday they did not know how many people received shots at the court session and how many merely had paperwork problems. It was also unclear how many medical or religious exemptions were involved.
Several organizations opposed to mass vaccinations protested outside the courthouse. While the medical consensus is that vaccines are safe and effective, some parents and researchers believe immunizations are responsible for a rise in autism and other medical problems.
"People should have a choice" in getting their children immunized, said Charles Frohman, representing a physicians' group opposed to vaccines.
