Why in the hell can't these boneheads at the capital work out this issue of school property taxes. All I see is half ass attempts on the issue of school property taxes just in the name of getting your vote. Fuck a reduction for a higher sales tax. I want an elimination!!! For all too not for the fuckin elderly and those on a low income.
Domestic relations has a table they us to calculate your support. Why the hell can't we do the same for a school. You have 2,000 kids here is your budget. Period, end of story, educate within your means.
We're taxed to fuckin death!!!! Why the hell do we pay a county tax? When it snows I don't see a Dauphin County truck plowing my street. The only county agency I've dealt with is Domestic Relations. Perhaps they need to charge for the services they do provide and get the hell out of raising assessments on our fuckin properties.
I swear to God the time is near for a revolt with all this taxation we are FORCED to pay!!!
I think the best one is the Occupation Privilege tax. $52.00 for the privilege to work. Maybe we need to start a Welfare Privilege tax, charge the bastards for the privilege to make welfare a career for most on it.

New taxes are created to hide the fact that government mis-spent the money we already gave them. I wish we had a flat tax. Every paycheck- take your 30% and leave me the rest. Divy it up as you see fit, but don't ask for more cause that's all you get.

From what I read, if EVERYONE paid a flat federal, state and local tax, you would only loss 20% of your paycheck. It would be less than the current system.
However this is to easy to do, so I highly doubt we'll ever see it.
Did you ever look at your bills (cell, telephone, electric, etc) and see the taxes added to your services.(state and federal) Those fuckers are pulling money from anything they can get their hands around.
Give me a one flat tax and stay the hell out of my wallet!!!! We have to live within our means, why can't government?

Without taxes, we would have no street signs, parks, schools, public library, police and fire units, roads, bridges, public hospitals, 911, support programs for needy children, mentally challenged or elderly, etc... the list goes on. I don't like paying them, but they do a common good for us all. We have representatives that we vote into office who decide how they are appropriated. If you don't like their game plan, VOTE THEM OUT!!!

Never mind the property tax, if you wanna talk about a big old pile of bullshit tax that affects all of us here--let's talk about Harrisburg's "Amusement Tax"
Oh, what's that? You've never heard of the Amusement Tax?
Allow me to explain it to you--
Any company that charges admission to any event must pay the good ol' city of Harrisburg ten percent of the gross door reciepts.
Make $1000 at the door? Reed and Co. get $100.
Where does that tax go? Apparantley, half goes to the school system and half goes to an arts fund.
But what really fucking burns me is that the GD Whitaker center, the biggest money pit in town, is EXEMPT b/c they're a non-profit.
Most times, a promoters profit from a show is 10-15% of the gate. But when you take away the 10% for the stupid Amusement Tax, it leaves us with almost nothing.
It's not surprising that there aren't any REALLY big shows in Harrisburg anymore.
*end of rant*

It's not surprising that there aren't any REALLY big shows in Harrisburg anymore. So, I guess the free Beach Boys concert on July 4 isn't a 'really big' show>

“Domestic relations has a table they use to calculate your support. Why the hell can't we do the same for a school”. - Jim O Your damn right they have a table. It is located in the dungeon of the domestic relations building in Carlisle. After you crawl down the hall on your knees over broken glass they strap you to the “table.” The procedure on the table is very simple albeit slightly painful A lawyer hooks you up to a machine that drains you of most of your possessions, assets, blood, and hope. You then send in the remainder of your soul in easy monthly payments conveniently removed from your paycheck. After garnishing your paycheck (they put parsley on it and serve it with lemon wedges) you get the priviledge of paying $10 a check for “administrative fees” so while your soul is being removed you get to pay for it!! Oh yeah and you get to visit the table every three years!! Sorry if I got off topic

Not off topic at all. I always enjoy Domestic Relation stories. It helps ease my own DR pain.
I think I should add a Domestic Relations section to the Message Board.

It's not surprising that there aren't any REALLY big shows in Harrisburg anymore. So, I guess the free Beach Boys concert on July 4 isn't a 'really big' show> One: It's free. No entertainment tax required. Two: It's purchased and presented by the city. Again, no entertainment tax required. Three: How relevant are The Beach Boys anymore?

One thing about the Carlisle DR office that drives me nuts.... is that floor and stairs make lots of noise.... and they are carpeted....

Here's where all of your current and future tax dollars are going: " A recent study by Commonwealth Foundation senior fellow Richard Dreyfuss found that in the next six years, taxpayers will be forced to pay a 615 percent increase in contributions -- from $584 million in fiscal year 2004-05 to almost $4.2 billion in fiscal year 2012-13 -- to the State Employees Retirement System (SERS) and the Public School Employees Retirement System (PSERS)." I wonder where this money is going to come from... Sure they'll raise the minimum wage, and then just increase the taxes on it.

Raise the minimum wage. Big f'n deal. We'll suffer more inflation and still have extremely poor people in our city.
What would work better is a 'salary cap' for CEO's of major corporations. If you can't live on a million dollars a year, you really, really suck. I understand that they 'earn' their money, but the large increases in salaries for executives really sucks the resources out to improve payrates for the mailroom clerks and average joes, thus creating a larger gap between the lower and upper classes and eliminates the middle class all together. America was about capitalism, but now it's just blatant greed. This will be the downfall of 'the land of opportunity.'
What especially pisses me off is when foreigners can come in and setup a business tax-free, while I don't qualify for shit. I have to work harder and longer hours and still be taxed to hell. But what do I know....
