I have been on a rampage for a little while now because it has finally dawned on me that child custody and child support enforcement is incredibly biased against non-custodial parents. I know many who cannot afford to even rent a room somewhere and are forced to live in their parents house or even their cars so that they can make child support payments to ex's who have homes, jobs, cars, and often well-to-do significant others and so that they won't be thrown in jail. Almost all of the enforcement measures enacted by the Pennsylvania General Assembly aim to make their situations WORSE, not to encourage voluntary contributions to the childrens' lives in the way of BOTh time and money. They can take away almost any means that the non-custodial parent has of being employed... how much sense does that make? And the children are affected the worst... can you imagine your parent going to jail for 6 months because they can't afford to pay your other parent 600-700 dollars a month for your existance? That can't be healthy on a child's psyche. I have started a message board for the topic, hoping to get anyone to voice their opinions and hopefully have a strong enough voice to be heard by legislature. If only the problem were JUST our elected officials... The message board is: www.smallbutmighty.comPlease join me. I hate to see children... and their parents suffer needlessly. -Ang

I could make a whole website on what I've been through with "the system".
Here's what they should do. If I have to pay $700.00 a month, so does she. $1400.00 dollars goes into an account that is used to pay for child related expenses. (Going to the movies is not a child related expense from the account.) Just like a bank statement both parties get to see where the money is going. Not spending it all on the kids, then the amount is lowered.
This is a subject that gets my blood boiling!!!! Unless you have gone thru Domestic Relations you have no idea what it's like.
Good luck with the message board!!!

The idea of a duel account with equal contribution is a good one and was suggested int he past...
I like that idea since I know that the hole uses my money for her "other" family....

Figures, a common sense solution is not good enough for the state. I once heard someone say that she would make out better getting divorced. (Child support and alimony) If that doesn't tell you the system is fucked up, then I don't know what else would.

at the very least they should let the non custodial parent claim something on thier income tax OR let the recieving parent pay taxes on the support money... I get screwed in both direction

But again that makes to much sense, so forget it!!! Here's another thing thats fucked up. Today most companies are switching to a twice a month pay period. However your support is calculated weekly. So depending on what cycle you're on, you're always showing being behind on the support due. Even though I have my support "stolen" (wage attatched) each pay check, I still had to lose time off from work to explain why I'm not current to some hippie hearing officer. He suggested I manual pay an additional 2 weeks ahead to stay current. I suggested they change their system to stay "current" with the corporate world. Of course I got the deer in the headlights look. Who the hell gets paid weekly anymore?

i had an employer who was spending my support. it got $1000 behind twice. It was up to me to prove him wrong. He was swearing up and down he paid it. So domestic relations believed him before me,because he was the bossman lol. but after some investigating and pulling my paystubs together he eventually paid up and i quit working for his sorry ass. but my complaint is,,why was his word good enough? he didn't have to prove anything to them. i had to go to great lenghs , do my own investigating, provide documentation, and prove to them they screwed up, and he screwed up. the ex even helped me with it,,course she had a stake in it too lol. BEWARE! If your wages r garnished, keep every paystub, your employer can miss a payment and get away with it if u don't have the proof showing they took it.

LOLOL ;D, i was gonna quit the first time but he blamed every one but himself for the "oversight" LOL, but once it happened twice,,I knew he was a genuine jerk. He liked to be a big shot at the bar buying everyone rounds with my kids support money, and he still denies any wrong doing, blaming everyone else for the book mistakes,,yea right!
